Every image you see in media is with no doubt photoshopped.
Fixing color, image size and fixing small errors are all common place in photography, and I can understand why. But that isn’t the kind of photoshop I have an issue with.
When it comes to fashion, photoshop can tend to become extreme.
Recently there has been a scandal about a certain pair of models getting their kneecaps photoshopped out of an ad.
The kneecaps being photoshopped out is just the tip of the ice burg when it comes to this photo, teeth, toes and arms had also been altered to comiclly unrealistic representations of the human body.
Some of you think, ‘oh well this doesn’t happen all the time, so it’s whatever, this is the exception.’
What if I told you that this type of practice is commonplace. Browse through Forever 21 online shop and behold, all of those models have been photoshopped one way or another. There has been scandal after scandal of bad photoshop jobs of thigh gaps and thinning arms. These girls are already very thin, but are then photoshopped even more.
Photoshop is an industry standard. But I ask why? These girls are beautiful, our society’s obsession with thinness has an effect on people’s ideas of what an idealistic body should look like.
