‘Who Wore It Better?’ Pitting Women Against Each Other

I hate seeing tabloids with the headline ‘Who wore it best? Find out on page 2’ putting two, successful actresses side by side to be evaluated by the magazine.

Not only do you never see this for men (and I know why, because men all look the same anyways in their tux) but it’s blatantly putting two women against each other.

This idea that a women would be a winner or better if she looked better in the same outfit is not only insulting to those women who are both talented women regardless of their looks, but also insulting women over all.

The worst thing that could happen to a woman is that another woman wears the same outfit. It happened to me at my junior prom and sure it was upsetting, but what made it worse was the fact that other people said to me ‘Oh Eva look she’s wearing your dress!’ like they expected me to fight her! Why? She has great taste!

Stop pitting women against each other, we are our own best allies. Rather than be jealous or angry at someone’s looks, stop. Don’t evaluate this woman based on looks alone.

Women are more than outfits.
